Car Tires, Toronto, Ontario – Lied about balancing tires TWICE

0

Description

I realize the Active Green + Ross is a franchise, but I want to know how I can contact the dealer Jay Dickson to complain about his technicians not doing a good job with the service they give. Do they do quality assurance?

I paid for my summer tires to be switched out to winter, and balanced, but the balancing was either not done or done improperly TWICE.

The location: 859 Kipling Avenue, The dates: Oct 19, 2011, then Nov 4, 2011. The person I dealt with was Duy Nguyen. Mr. Nguyen apologized for the inept Oct 19th job (although I don’t feel he was sincere, because of the way he squinted his eyes at me, and tightened his lips…making him look most unpleasant), did the corrective balancing for free on Nov 4th, and after I asked for it gave me a discount on my next service at that location totalling $20.00. However, the inconvenience of having to go back again for something that should have been done correctly the first time, the time it took from my sleep ( I work night shifts at the hospital), and the eroded trust in this establishment was really upsetting. But it didn’t stop there…

I then drove my BMW to Mississauga on Sunday Nov 6 2011 on the QEW, 427, and 401. Now at speeds between 115km – 120km and over 130km, the steering wheel, and the floor boards at times are vibrating! I don’t intentionally speed for no reason, but on a stretch of highway with no cars late at night I felt I had to put the car to the test. These mechanics at Active Green & Ross have no idea how to balance the tires on a BMW properly, and it makes me angry. I had these same tires on my car last winter put on at Active Green and Ross on Dufferin and the car performed just fine. Now I will have to go to my BMW dealer to get it done correctly. I want a refund from the Active Green and Ross on Kipling!

I paid for the balancing and it was not done, or done incorrectly twice. Is it something they do to select (female) customers? How many people go back to have redos of work at this location? Do they actually have trained individuals working in the bay?

Something just does not sit right with me, and I am going to have to go to the Better Business Bureau if I don’t get a full refund for the the 4 tire change and balancing.

  1. Matthew says:

Car vibrations such as your may be caused by several problems. In no way am I saying they performed a proper balance, or a improper balance. I am an independent competitor of Active G&R but I’d rather offer up information that is fair and accurate rather than misleading for promotional benefit.

Most often vibration felt in the steering wheel can be traced to the front end of the car. Vibrations at high speeds can lead to tire failure and serious accidents. Whatever the cause of the vibration, don’t ignore the problem and have the vehicle serviced at once.

    POSSIBILITY #1
When a car’s wheels are out of alignment, it can lead to vibration. A wheel alignment consists of adjusting the angles of the wheels so that they are perpendicular to the ground and parallel to each other. Wheel alignment adjustments are necessary to maximize tire life and make your tires rotate evenly.

    POSSIBILITY #2
A bulge or blister on the sidewall of a tire can also cause vibrations, which is particularly dangerous if it’s on a front tire. It’s a sign of a potential weak spot that could lead to tire blowout. Always check for abnormalities on the sidewalls of your tires. Replace the tire immediately if you find a bulge or blister.

    POSSIBILITY #3
Wheel balancing is often confused with wheel alignment. The two are totally different, but they both affect the ride and handling of your car. If a wheel is out of balance, it will cause a vibration at high speeds that can be felt in the steering wheel. When tires are fitted to wheels, correction weights are attached to the wheels to make the tires rotate evenly and counteract the combined effect of the tire and wheel unbalance. Tires often need rebalancing during their lifetime. A good time to check wheel balance is during a rotation.

    POSSIBILITY #4
Motor mounts support the engine and transmission, and reduce noise and vibration in your car, especially at high speeds. Motor mounts separate the engine and transmission from the chassis so vibrations are not transmitted to the rest of the car. If a service shop determines worn motor mounts to be the cause of vibration, they need to be replaced.

    POSSIBILITY #5
Worn shock absorbers or struts in your car can cause vibrations by not keeping the tires firmly on the road surface, allowing them to bounce on uneven roads. Worn shocks or struts can lead to uneven tire wear, which can cause vibrations.

    POSSIBILITY #6
Loose or broken steering components can cause vibrations when driving at high speeds. Worn tie rod bushings or a bad wheel bearing can cause vibrations, as can warped brake rotors, which can especially be felt in the steering wheel when braking.

    POSSIBILITY #7
A bent tire rim usually occurs when you hit the side of a curb very hard or hit a deep pothole. This will cause a vibration at high speeds and balancing the wheels will not fix it. A bent rim needs to be replaced, especially if it’s on the front end of the car.

If you have any further questions or comments I would love to hear.
